Will the Quiksilver "Eddie" GO next week?!

The official opening ceremony for The Quiksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau, Fueled by Monster Energy took place yesterday at Waimea Bay, December 3rd at 2pm. The official holding period is from December 1, 2009, through February 28, 2010.

Big surf is expected to hit the north shore of Oahu and the Hawaiian islands this weekend and into early next week. Waves could top 20 feet today on the north shores of O'ahu, Kaua'i and Maui, the National Weather Service said yesterday. But even bigger surf may be on the horizon. An accompanying surf forecast said there is a "strong potential for warning level surf late this weekend into the middle of next week."

Some surf forecasters and big-wave watchers are suggesting that waves having 40-foot faces are a possibility, with the surf being the biggest it's been in 15 years
