Surfing in Japan

Most of us know that theres surf in Japan and perhaps that its fickle, but how good does it get in the land of the rising sun?

We've spoken with Andrew at Typhoon surf tours in Japan to find out:

"Japan is a very underrated country for surfing and has remained under the
surf travel radar. Each year the typhoon season arrives in August and with
it come consistent, often big swells. The season lasts through to October.

There are numerous world-class breaks in the southern islands, many of
them lie far from the cities and remain uncrowded. The variety is amazing,
boulder pointbreaks, coral reefs, heavy rivermouths, and fun beachies.

Typhoon Surf Tours aim to make it easy for surfers new to Japan, to surf the best waves and delve into the rich culture.

We do this with surf tour packages that begin in Miyazaki, Kyushu - the
southern-most of Japan's 4 main islands. Packages include 10 nights
accommodation, all breakfasts and dinners, all local transportation
including a sidetrip to a sub-tropical offshore island, and all day
everyday surf guiding.

For intermediate level surfers we also offer a surf instruction package
which includes comprehensive surf coaching and video analysis."

The Guys who run the tours are offering group discounts check out their website for more info:
